Evidence
in Support of Forced Motherhood:
If
you believe that secular laws can be based on ancient, religious fairytales,
then forced motherhood is a perfect fit for you. We say
that because there isn't any scientific evidence telling us what a human
being is, or when life begins, or what life is, or where we came from, or
why we are here, or what happens when the body dies, etc., etc.
As Their "proof," which is no proof at all, the no-choice
leaders have only God's
Conception magic act and other
religious beliefs from
Christian theology. The conception magic act is not even in the
Christian Bible.
The
forced motherhood leaders claim that life begins at conception, but when
they use the word “conception,” they are referring to a process
where God steps in and, by an act of instantaneous,
supernatural, transcendental magic, transforms every uniting human egg and
sperm into a brand new, never-before-existing, separate, complete,
and-now-eternal, sovereign, human being with independent rights. According
to the beliefs of the anti-abortion promoters, it is not the uniting of
sperm and egg which creates a new human being, it’s God’s instantaneous,
supernatural transcendental magic act.
The
anti-abortion leaders have also declared that a human being is his or
her earthly physical body. If
a human being is his/her physical body (in the form of a fertilized egg),
then doing anything to interrupt the life of that egg is, indeed, an act of
murder.
.
Evidence
in Support of Women's Reproductive Rights:
Obviously,
if the physical egg, itself, is not the human being, then what happens to
that egg is a
personal, private matter° It's an issue for
discussion in religious institutions, not in the legislative halls of our
elected, government representatives.
The scientific evidence
tells us that physical matter is not physical at all. It's made up of
energy that is controlled by consciousness. You and I are
examples of consciousness, but what are we? When you say
"me," to whom or to what are you referring? Nobody
knows what consciousness is or how it functions. Once
again, this drops us squarely into the middle of religion.
If
humans are something other than their physical bodies,°
then the egg is merely the seed, the "blueprints," the
instructions from which a physical, human body is created out of earth
matter.
That potential, when developed and nurtured, grows into a physical body
which becomes the host for a being, for a soul, or as the Christian Bible
calls it, a host for the "spirit."
.
The
Real Question:
Thus,
the appropriate abortion debate is not about whether or not there is a
physical body in the womb. It’s not about whether on not the
zygote/ embryo/ fetus is alive,
human, and unique.°
The real question that needs to be answered is: What
is life and where is it?°
Is life the physical body, itself, or is
life the spirit which inhabits the physical body?
If it’s the body, itself, then
abortion is indeed taking a life. If life is the spirit, then
removing the physical embryo from a woman's womb is similar to halting work on a construction site.
The
Required Proof:
In order to
morally and ethically justify forcing a woman to become a mother against her
will, the anti-choice leaders must prove
that life begins at conception° --
they must prove
that the human body, itself, is the human being°
-- they must prove that life is not in the spirit
that inhabits the physical body°
-- they must prove that human beings are not eternal beings who simply
inhabit human bodies -- they must prove that the billions of people who
believe in reincarnations are wrong and that they don't have the right
to practice their own religion,° --
and they must prove that their reason for outlawing abortion is based
on factual evidence and is not simply the product of the ancient religious
belief about
God's
Conception-Magic Act.° The anti-choice leaders can prove none of these claims.

Religion's Point of View

Another
Religion' s Point of View:
In
direct contradiction to Christian theology, the leaders of the Eastern religions who have
billions of
followers say:
"Physical
matter is only a very small part of reality. Life does not
begin at conception, or at birth, or anywhere else, and life
does not end at death. Humans are not physical
bodies. Humans are eternal,
non-physical, divine beings who temporarily inhabit physical
bodies. Everything is a part of
and intimately related to
everything else.
An 'Intelligent Creator' created everything we know about and
everything we still don't know about. The 'Intelligent Creator'
is beyond human knowledge and understanding. Humans are part of and
co-creators with 'God.' Within the context of
life on Earth, we are the creators of our personal
experiences."
