A Few Dollars More:

You probably already know that money (putting a few dollars more in the pockets of the wealthy) is the number one reason why the lumber companies are still destroying what little remains of the Virgin Forests of Ancient, Giant Redwood Trees in the United States.   Many very dedicated people are making extraordinary efforts to save what's left of these forests.    As a adjunct to their gallant effort, The Reasonables' New-Vision Team is applying an additional and previously  unused approach to ending this irreversible destruction.   

A New Approach:

The Reasonables'  Save the Virgin Redwoods  Project is creating a uniquely operated and jointly controlled financial Trust.   Many aspects of this Trust are similar to those used in The Reasonables'  Retirement-Investment Trust Program.²   (In Retirement Trust program, the people, collectively, control their own retirement funds by setting up a  trust and investing the Trust's money in safe, tangible-asset, profit-making real estate.  The profits from the investments to pay retirees.)     In contrast, the  Environmental Trust Program will use its money and it's influence to buy and/or otherwise obtain controlling interests in the companies that are still cutting trees in what little is left of the virgin Forests of Ancient, Giant Redwood Trees.    

Instead of the traditional way of dealing with this problem, which is fighting with the lumber companies, The Reasonables' Save-the-Virgin-Redwoods Project is going directly to the heart of the problem and focusing where the power is.   The N.V.P. Team is focusing on money.   The N.V.P.'s Environmental Trust will focus, first, on one specific lumber company -- yet to be determined.   The tangible, do-able goal is to  buy the chosen  company's stock until the Trust owns or controls enough stock to alter  the company's timber cutting policy and to stop the cutting in virgin forests.     

Once the Trust has a controlling financial interest, the offending company will be transformed  into the world's first environmentally friendly  lumber company.  The Trust will then become a focal point for directing money at saving all the virgin forests, one company at a time.   The N.V.P. Team intends that the Trust be under the direction and control of a mutually supporting group of environmentalists.   The N.V.P. Team is applying variations of the themes described in The Reasonables' Mutual-Support Community Project ² and applying them to  saving what's left of our virgin forests.   

The Lunatic Fringe:

To some, this may sound like a ridiculous, impossible, airy-fairy idea, but so did every other major transformation on the planet when it was first proposed.°   As an example, imagine the response received by the person who first proposed this ridiculous,  harebrained  idea:   "If I could allow you to sleep until one hour later each morning, and if I could add an extra hour of daylight at the close of each day, would you be interested?"   Today we call that weird idea "Daylight Savings Time."   

The Typical First Response:

The typical first response to this idea is that it's simply not feasible because the Trust would need to receive millions of dollars in donations.   Then limitation thinking adds a "mind-story" to justify this response:   

"That's impossible!   Destruction is inevitable.  It can't be any other way.    I'm just one little guy with very little money.   There's nothing I can do."   

We'll perhaps it's time to step outside the conventional mode of thinking.   The New-Vision Trust does not need to receive millions of dollars.  The issue is control, not ownership!  How do we do control money we don't own?   By cooperation, by focusing on one company at a time, and by the steps below:

   What would happen if everybody truly concerned about the destruction of our environment bought just three shares of stock in the offending company and voted with us (in person or by proxy) at the next annual meeting.  

   What if a dozen or so multimillionaires temporarily invested a few million dollars each in purchasing stock in the offending  company and vote with us (in person or by proxy) at the next annual meeting.   

   What if every environmental organization focused just a meager two percent of its time, effort, and money at this project and they all did so at the same time.   Again, the  organizations wouldn't need to give the trust any money, but simply join us in a focused effort.   They could, in their own name, buy and temporarily hold stock in the offending company.    

   What about the thousands of people who would and actually will donate to a Trust where their donation is never spent, but rather, it is invested in an ever-growing fund where the profits are used to create a financial power point for protecting the Earth for their children and and for their grandchildren.?    

   You might also note that this is an ideal project that grant writers can easily take to foundations and other organizations that are looking worthy causes to fund.     

   And where's the opposition?   Who do you know who favors destroying the last of our virgin redwoods?     Is there any project on the entire planet that has a broader base of appeal?  

Even the men running the chain saws don't want the trees destroyed.   They are simply doing what they need to do to survive.   And the men running these lumber corporations don't want the treed destroyed, either   They are under the control of the Great God Money.   If they don't produce a profit, they're out of a job.

   What if a dozen or so Hollywood celebrities were promoting this project?

   What if well-known people from all around the world were promoting this project?   

   What if this project is a project whose time has come?   It is!   And it's unstoppable!   It's only a matter of how soon it's activated.

   And when the project is complete, those who bought shares of stock in the offending lumber company can sell those shares and have their money back.  In this scenario, the big unanswered question is:  "At that time of sale, what will the stock be worth?"   The answer to that question depends on the N.V.P. Team's ability to transform the company into the world's first environmentally friendly lumber company.   (See the sections below --- "A Renewable Resource"  and  "Walk Our Talk.")   

This Project is HOT!  
      It's Timely!   
                It's Do-able!   
                        It's Vital!    
                                 It's Urgently Needed!     
                                         And There's NO Functional Alternative.

So the real question is NOT:  Is this concept feasible?"   The important question is:  "How quickly can the Trust become fully functional?"

And It's NOT Like the Trust Will Spend the Money.   
   It's  Invested!

Note the difference between the money commonly donated directly to worthy causes and the money put into The N.V.P. Environmental Trust.   In most cases, no matter how worthy the cause may be,  the money donated directly to that cause is used,  spent, and is soon gone, and the organization's leaders are again out looking for more donations.***

museums are obvious exceptions to this.

In contrast, the money put into The N.V.P. Environmental Trust  remains in the trust.    The trust investment money is never spent!     Obviously the Trust requires funding for its creation and management.   This money will be separate from the investment fund and it's use carefully  controlled.   In a manner similar to that used in  The Reasonables' Retirement Investment Trust Program,°   some money will be invested for the express purpose of producing profit to pay the trust's expenses.    The Trust Fund, itself,  becomes a never-ending, ever-expanding, environmentally focused, financial power point.   The Trust, will also,  in many instances, be earning a profit on its money.  

A Renewable Resource:

Once the offending lumber company has been  stopped from destroying virgin forests, the pristine forests that the company owns will be sold to organizations dedicated to forest preservation for perpetuity.   That money will then be available to go after the next most offensive lumber company.   The company's  remaining forest will be treated as an ecosystem and managed as a renewable resource.    

Walk Our Talk:

The corporate management priorities will then be shifted  from profits to people.   The lumber company employees who choose to cooperate with this transformation will be invited onto the team and will be treated as fellow travelers on space ship Earth.   Their interests, needs, and requirements will be a significant factor in the company's plans for future management.   Studies have been done with regard to how businesses can be run with management and labor working in harmony and with decisions made by consensus rather than by "The Great God, Money."  The N.V.P. Team intends to follow those guidelines.    A  Retirement Investment Trust.°  will also be set up for the benefit of employees.   Those who oppose the changes will simply be fired.   Anyone intentionally expanding the destruction in the pristine forests in any way will be treated the same was as they have been treating the virgin redwood trees!   See  The Silent Conspiracy.°    

On to the Next:

The Reasonables' Save-the-Virgin-Redwoods Project, SRWP,  will then focus on a second lumber company and do likewise.   With good publicity and with the cooperation of hundreds of ecology-minded individuals and organizations, the project is both feasible and do-able within the required time frame.    

And here's still another factor to consider:   With every dollar put into the Trust, the Trust becomes more powerful, and,  as soon as the profound potential of this modus operandi  is recognized, environmentalists will become a powerful force that will be heard,  listened to, and given due consideration.   

Possibilities:

Money is where the power is and that's where the Reasonables' Save-the-Virgin-Redwoods Project is leading us.   The long-term potential of this approach is phenomenal.   There really is no other long-term solution.
