(The Reasonables )

The Reasonables   is a label we've coined to describe ourselves because we tend to think outside the box.°    We combine reason and emotion.   We combine head and heart.   We don't fit exclusively under any of the  traditional labels,  such as liberal or conservative.

We refuse to ignore evidence  which questions or challenges our present beliefs.  We refuse to duck the tough questions.   We refuse to live in denial.

We examine as  much evidence as is possible.   We examine all sides of issues and then offer reasonable courses of action.   We propose solutions that are based upon what the presently available evidence indicates as in the highest and best interest of all concerned in the long run..   We examine trends and propose adapting, adjusting, and  making the  necessary changes before disasters happen.   We speak up  even when what we have to offer that isn't popular.    A good place to start looking for us is in what the carved in stone traditionalists call The Lunatic Fringe.°     Here's a quote describing "A Reasonable."

"I approach all aspects of my life, and particularly religion and politics,  with a combination of what my mind tells me and what my internal feelings tell me.   I call myself  "A Reasonable" which means that on some issues I'm conservative, on others, I'm liberal, and on still others, I simply don't have enough information to hold a strong opinion one way or the other."

"When I hear someone else telling me what I should or shouldn't do, and particularly when I hear instructions from someone who claims to know some that I don't, I  bring my mind into the picture and ask, "What's in it for them?"   I question everything, not from the position of being an adversary, but rather as one seeking proof that the claims being made are based or evidence and not simple someone's belief about reality.   And before I just mindlessly go along, I look for what the evidence indicates is most likely the truth."

Here's an example of how a Reasonable (such as a politician) might publicly describe him/her self:

In some situations, I think that  "Traditional Values" hold the best answer.   Under other circumstances,  the "Liberal," new-possibility approach, offers the best course of action.   On still other issue, there simply isn't enough conclusive evidence available for me  to hold a strong opinion one way or the other.

But no matter what the circumstances are, I always I think and act in a manner that, in my heart, I feel is in the best interest of all concerned.   And when I am in the legislature, the  best interest of all Americans is uppermost in my mind.   That's why I call myself   "A Reasonable."

.

And when it comes to the abortion issue, I am Absolutely and Totally Reasonable.   If you've looked at the evidence, as I have,  you already know that abortion is a constitutionally guaranteed religious freedom issue.    If you don't know that yet --  if you still believe the antiquated, stuck in the mud, conservative belief, please check my web site and you’ll see exactly what I mean:

The Cultural Creatives       ...

The Cultural Creatives:    (The Reasonables )

Paul Ray and Sherry Anderson did a famous piece of market research which concluded that there is a large segment of the U.S. population sharing certain fundamental values which somehow has escaped recognition. ***    They call this group "The Cultural Creatives".

They have a social conscience and are concerned about ecology and the state of society.   They are interested in alternative healthcare, arts & culture.   They want a sustainable ecology, they're responsible consumers.   They are seekers who are trying to understand the bigger picture, who're trying to wake up spiritually, and who value authenticity and truth.   They tend to be optimistic about the future, and open to meeting new people and learning about them.   Yet this is a very diverse crowd, so they might not previously have seen themselves as part of the same bigger group.   Paul Ray estimated their number in the United States at around 50 million.

"Cultural Creatives" is not particularly any different group from those who are talking about "a new paradigm", or those who are into "conscious evolution", or those who would like to be part of a "new civilization" or a "global renaissance", or those who are "new age" or "progressive".   The point is rather to get beyond any divisive labels and realize that there's a very large group of us who are interested in creating a better world based on values of sustainability and community and kindness and wholeness and the joys of discovering what is NEW

This description of the Cultural Creatives

Cultural Creatives have also been defined as  "The Reasonables" because they tend to take each issue on its own merit and because they are thinking, rational people with open minds and open hearts who see changes and new ideas as simply the natural working of the universe.   As one person put it,  "Sometimes I'm liberal, sometimes I'm conservative, sometimes I'm a Republican, sometimes a Democrat, but always, I'm an Independent in thought and in spirit.   Reasonables are much more likely to be aware of and honor "The Universal Law of Allowing.°    and much less likely to support wars.

.

.

***  (Editor's Note)  Actually this group (the Cultural Creatives) has not escaped the notice of those in charge of maintaining the status quo.   We are very much within their awareness, and many of them feel threatened by our presence.   Their present "grand strategy" is to ignore us whenever they can, limit our access to mainstream media and publicity, and whenever possible make us look like The Lunatic Fringe.°

They also seem to be ignoring the fact that if they don't take the rest of us in,  the real lunatic fringe (Al-Qaida, etc.) will take them out.   If that doesn't happen, then one or more  of the inevitable ecological disasters that their policies have set into motion will be their demise.   It's not a question of "IF,"  it's a question of "WHEN."   So no matter what the keepers of the status quo do, our  job is to prepare ourselves to pick up the pieces after the crash, speak the truth, and keep on keeping on.   That's what this web site is all about.  See "Waging War on Ignorance" at  <http://www.joy101.org/ignorance-truth.html

In order to to make full use of what the N.V.P. has to offer,  you'll need to  commit yourself to the following five objectives below.     And remember, no one is asking for or expecting perfection.   The only person you are competing with is the person you were yesterday.

To the best of your ability, be one of The  Reasonables.

Approach all aspects of Your life and particularly religion and politics,  with a combination of what your mind tells you and what your internal feelings tell you.   On some issues be conservative, on others, be liberal, and on still others, simply acknowledge that you don't have enough information to justify holding a strong opinion one way or the other.

When You hear someone else telling you what you should or shouldn't do, and particularly when you hear instructions from someone who claims to know something that you don't,  bring your mind into the picture.   Find the answer to this question: "What's in it for them?"

Question everything, not from the position of being an adversary, but rather as one seeking proof that the claims being made are based or evidence and not simple someone's belief about reality.   Before you just mindlessly go along,  look for what the evidence indicates is most likely the truth."

To the best of your ability, look  for the wolves in sheep's clothing.    Start asking who's doing what and why?   Look at those who claim to be serving others and note who among them is living in financial lifestyles way above that which the average person can afford, and find out where and on what they're  spending their organization's money.   Hiding among the genuine, you'll soon find the Wolves in Sheep's Clothing.°

To the best of your ability, play in The unity mode where everybody wins.°

Find at least one partner, a friend or family member, to participate with you in this process.    Your chances of  success will vastly improve,  and your rate of progress will speedup dramatically.

Each week, read one page from this website or from the links related to The Reasonables, and then  share what you've read about with at least one other person.
